Acetochlor(CAS No.34256-82-1) is a selective herbicide, absorbed mainly by the shoots and secondarily by the roots of germinating plants.

Environmental Profile The main method of degradation is microbial breakdown, Acetochlor is absorbed mainly by germinating plant shoots, and secondly by roots. and appears to inhibit protein synthesis in susceptible plants. HAZARDS: Fish: Toxic. Bee: Moderately toxic. WATER SOLUBILITY: 223 mg/l at 25ºC.
Toxicity (Rat): Oral LD50 2148 mg/kg; Inhalation LC50 >3 mg/l (4 h). (Rabbit): Dermal LD50 4166 mg/kg. Other:Moderate eye irritant, slight skin irritant.
Application Acetochlor can be applied prior to planting or pre-emergence. Following application to the soil, it is absorbed by the shoots and roots of germinating plants. Some moisture is required following pre-emergence application, although acetochlor is more active in dry conditions than other chloroacetamide herbicides. It has residual activity lasting up to ten weeks. In common with other chloroacetamides, acetochlor is less effective at controlling large-seeded broadleaf weeds. Tank-mixing or sequential applications with suitable herbicides are recommended to extend acetochlor's weed spectrum. Acetochlor can also be used in no-till agriculture.
