Lincomycin hydrochloride is used in the semi-synthetic preparation of clindamycin, a semi-synthetic chlorinated derivative of lincomycin, for various infectious diseases caused by gram-positive and anaerobic bacteria, and also for the treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Clindamycin hydrochloride is considered to be one of the 20 most important antibiotics due to its strong anti-infective ability and wide therapeutic range. Structurally, lincomycin hydrochloride is formed by the condensation and modification of two parts: lincosamide (LSM) and propylproline (PPL). In recent years, research on the biosynthesis mechanism of lincomycin has achieved substantial results and the biosynthetic pathway is becoming clearer.
