Chemical properties:  chemical formula H3BO3. The molecular weight is 61.83. White triclinic scales with shiny crystals. The relative density is 1.43514, and the refractive index is 1.337, 1.461, and 1.462. It is soluble in water, ethanol and glycerin.

Uses:  Widely used in the manufacture of borate, water glass, borate, optical glass, enamel, paint, pigment, cosmetics, food preservatives, leather finishing, printing and dyeing auxiliaries and medicine, etc. It can also be used as antiseptic, disinfectant, and astringent Agent.

Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid,and acidum boricum, is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron, which is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber, or precursor to other chemical compounds. It has the chemical formula H3BO3 (sometimes written B(OH)3), and exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder that dissolves in water. When occurring as a mineral, it is called sassolite.
