PH or precipitation hardening stainless steel alloys are amongst those metals, whose hardness and mechanical strength can be increased by the use of various heat treatment procedures. Although the name of the 17-4 ph round bar suggests that the chemical makeup of the alloy is 17% chromium and 4% nickel, the chemistry also has another primary alloyant, which makes it a PH grade.

And so the chemical composition of 17-4 ph stainless steel round rod includes  15 - 17.5% chromium and 3 - 5% nickel, as well as 3 - 5% copper. In comparison to several high nickel alloys and non-ferrous alloys, the 17-4 ph stainless steel round bar is considered to be a cost-effective alloy. Thus, the suitability of this stainless steel alloy includes industries such as petroleum and chemical industries. These industries require alloys like the AMS 5643 Steel 17-4 PH Bright Bar which have the ability to function well at temperatures of up to 600 °F. Even in such conditions, the Stainless Steel 13-8 Mo Flat Bar exhibits properties like high strength, high hardness, and/or corrosion resistance.
