amsulosin hydrochloride is a third generation super-selective long-acting alpha1 inhibitor, which was successfully developed by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical in Japan and approved by FDA for marketing in July 1992. Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a subtype of highly selective alpha1 receptor blocker, which was developed specifically for the treatment of BPH. It blocks alpha1A receptors in the prostate as well as alpha1A and alpha1D receptors in the bladder, causing smooth muscle relaxation in the above mentioned areas and reducing prostatic urethral pressure, thereby improving the patient's urinary function and clinical symptoms.
