Letosteine is a compound with a thioetheric acid structure and is an antitussive and expectorant cough and anti-nasal mucosal congestion agent. Letosteine, chemically known as 2-(4-carboxy-2-thiazolyl)ethyl thioacetate, is a cyclic cysteine derivative with mucolytic properties and is used clinically in the treatment of obstructive bronchopulmonary diseases including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma.
