The role and development history of wheel hub bearing units:
Wheel Hub bearing is one of the key parts of the car, its main function is to carry weight and provide precise guidance for the rotation of the hub, which requires it to bear not only axial load but also radial load.
Traditional automobile wheel bearings are composed of two sets of tapered roller bearings or ball bearings. The installation, oiling, sealing and clearance adjustment of the bearings are all carried out on the automobile production line. This structure makes it difficult to assemble in the automobile production plant, high in cost, and poor in reliability. Moreover, when the automobile is maintained at the maintenance point, the bearing needs to be cleaned, oiled and adjusted.
The wheel hub bearing unit is developed on the basis of standard angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings. It combines two sets of bearings into one, with good assembly performance, clearance adjustment can be omitted, light weight, compact structure, and high load capacity. Large, unsealed bearings can be loaded with grease in advance, omit the external hub seal and avoid maintenance, etc., have been widely used in cars, and there is a tendency to gradually expand their application in trucks.
In the past, most car wheel bearings used single-row tapered roller or ball bearings in pairs. With the development of technology, cars have widely used car wheel hub units. The scope and amount of use of hub bearing units are increasing day by day, and they have now reached the third generation.
The first generation consisted of double row angular contact bearings.
The second generation has a flange on the outer raceway for fixing the bearing, which can simply fit the bearing on the wheel shaft and fix it with nuts. Makes car maintenance easier.
The third-generation wheel hub bearing unit uses the combination of the bearing unit and the anti-lock brake system ABS. The hub bearing unit is designed to have an inner flange and an outer flange, the inner flange is bolted to the drive shaft, and the outer flange mounts the entire bearing together.
The fourth-generation wheel hub bearing unit integrates the constant velocity universal joint and the bearing, which solves the disadvantages in the prior art that the size of the wheel hub increases and the weight increases due to the integrated structure of the wheel hub and the constant velocity universal joint. The development of the fourth-generation wheel hub bearing unit has been successful, and it is believed that it will be widely used in various types of vehicles in the near future. The characteristics of these unit products are: there is no need to adjust the bearing assembly clearance, the bearing assembly process is more reasonable, the weight is reduced and the volume is reduced, and it can be used almost permanently after one-time grease filling, which reduces the overall production cost and is more conducive to large-scale popularization.

The main processing process of bearing supporting is divided into two types: one is that the turning process is mainly concentrated before the heat treatment of the workpiece; the other is that the turning process is mainly distributed in the rough turning process before the heat treatment of the workpiece and the finishing process after heat treatment.
1. The turning process mainly focuses on the technological process before the heat treatment of the workpiece as follows:
The advantage of this processing technology is that the processing procedure before high-frequency quenching can be uniformly processed by an automatic production line, which shortens the processing time and improves the processing efficiency.The disadvantage is that some positioning surfaces may be slightly deformed during grinding due to high-frequency quenching, which affects the precision of channel grinding and the position of bolt holes, which is not conducive to the stability of the bearing unit.
2. The turning process is mainly distributed in the rough turning process before heat treatment of the workpiece and the finishing process after heat treatment. The process flow is as follows:
The advantage of this processing technology is that it effectively avoids the influence of high-frequency quenching on the three positioning surfaces, ensures the grinding accuracy, and improves the position of the bolt holes at the same time, thereby increasing the stability and reliability. The disadvantage is that there are many processing procedures, scattered processing equipment, and high investment costs.
