The irradiated workpiece surface absorbs the energy of the laser beam and quickly heats up, resulting in evaporation and the formation of a vaporization layer. The absorption rate of the workpiece surface depends on the material properties of the workpiece and the wavelength of the laser beam. Generally speaking, metal materials have a higher absorption rate, while non-metal materials have a lower absorption rate. The thickness of the vaporization layer depends on the power of the laser beam and the exposure time; higher power and longer exposure time result in a thicker vaporization layer. At the same time, the depth of the vaporization layer is also affected by the thickness of the workpiece material.

Through focusing lenses or gratings and other optical components, the laser beam is focused into an extremely small spot. The diameter of this spot depends on the focal length of the focusing lens or grating and the optical properties. After focusing, the energy density of the spot can be very high, reaching several watts per square centimeter, which is enough to instantly melt or gasify any material.

The process of laser cutting involves continuously moving the laser processing head and processing materials relative to each other according to a pre-drawn pattern, resulting in the desired shape of the object. This process can include fusion welding, cutting, drilling, etc., and depends on the power of the laser and the movement trajectory. The computer can use professional CAD/CAM software to draw the processing graphics or can be manually programmed according to actual needs. During the entire processing process, the directionality and coherence of the laser beam are crucial.
