Triethylene glycol is a clear, colourless, oily liquid with a unique sweet yet mild odour and has the formula C ₆ H ₁₄ O ₂ . It is a butyl ether of ethylene glycol and is miscible with water and common organic solvents. It has been produced industrially for over half a century and is used primarily as a solvent in paints and surface coatings but also in inks and cleaning products.

  Triethylene glycol can be used as solvent for aromatics extraction, rubber, nitric  acid fiber, diesel additive and rocket fuel. In addition, it is widely used in coating, textile, printing and dyeing, food, paper making, cosmetics, leather making, photography, printing, metal processing and other industries. It is commonly used as textile auxiliaries, solvents, plasticizers for rubber and resin, improvers for lubricating oil viscosity and aromatics extraction agents for reforming fluids.
