Benzenesulfonic acid CAS 98-11-3 , colorless needle-like or flaky crystals, easily soluble in water, easily soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in benzene, insoluble in ether and carbon disulfide. It is used to make phenol through alkali melting, and is also used to make resorcinol, etc. It is also used as a catalyst.
Benzene sulfonic acid is commonly used as catalyst and water absorption agent in esterification reaction and dehydration reaction, and its advantage is that it is weaker than sulfuric acid oxidation and can reduce side reactions.
