MOG exists in the outermost layer of myelin membrane and oligodendrocytes in a small amount, accounting for about 0.01% to 0.05% of the total myelin protein. Since MOG is generally expressed 24-48 h later than other myelin proteins during development, it can be used as a marker of mature oligodendrocytes.
