Methylene chloride is used as a solvent, especially where high volatility is required. It is a good solvent for oils, fats, waxes,
resins, bitumen, rubber and cellulose acetate and is a useful paint stripper and degreaser. It is used in paint removers, in
propellant mixtures for aerosol containers, as a solvent for plastics, as a degreasing agent, as an extracting agent,and as a blowing agent in polyurethane foams. Its solvent property is sometimes increased by mixing withmethanol.

Methylene Chloride is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH2Cl2, is a colorless and transparent liquid with a pungent odor similar to ether. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether, it is a non-flammable low-boiling point solvent under normal use conditions, and when its vapor becomes high concentration in high-temperature air, a weakly flammable mixed gas will be formed.
