P
ACKAGING INFORMATION
:
SR681 Fire Rated Joint Sealant is supplied in 300 ml disposable plastic cartridges and 200L drum bulk packaging.
USABLE LIFE AND STORAGE
:
When stored at or below 27°C in the original unopened containers, it has a usable life of 12 months from the date of production.
LIMITATIONS:
• Can not be used as a structural sealant
• Should not be used in totally confined spaces because the sealant requires atmospheric moisture for cure
• Should not apply when surface temperature lower than 5°C or exceeds 40°C
• Not suitable for frosted or wet surfaces
• Should not be used in below-grade applications
• Not suitable for continuous flooding or wet places all year round
• Not suitable for all materials that bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents, green or partially vulcanized rubber gaskets or tapes
• Do not touch any sealant that may release acetic acid
• Should not be used If the sealant is intended to be painted
HOW TO USE:
Cleaning
Ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free from frost. Clean all joints of release agents, water repellents, laitance, dust, dirt, old sealants and other contaminants which could disable adhesion. Metal surfaces should be cleaned and degreased by wiping with a suitable solvent using an oil- and lint-free cloth. It should not be applied to surfaces that are below 5°C as it is impossible to guarantee a dry, frost
-
free surface at these temperatures
Primer
SR681 Fire Rated Joint Sealant is available for most common building materials without primer. If you are unsure whether the substrate should be primed, please contact our technical se
r
vice department. For optimum adhesion, it is best to use a primer for cement and concrete.
Backing material
Backer materials have been evaluated in various joint designs, these being closed-cell polcorningyethylene foam backer rod, ceramic fiber and mineral wool. In penetration sealing applications, mineral wool has been evaluated.
Mask Adjacent Surfaces With Masking Tape
Masking will ensure a clean, neat appearance and reduce clean up by protecting surrounding areas from excess sealant.
Tooling
Tool the surface of the joint before the sealant forms a skin
to
provide a smooth even finish and to ensure the sealant
good contract with substrate.
Remove masking tape immediately after tooling and before the sealant skins. After a skin has formed, do not
touch
the joint for 48 hours.
