It is still sometimes referred to by its old name 18/8 which is derived from the nominal composition of type 304 being 18% chromium and 8% nickel.The simple answer is  304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel while 316 contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum . The molybdenum is added to help resist corrosion to chlorides (like sea water and de-icing salts).In general, 2mm stainless steel is considered to be  fairly strong and can withstand a moderate amount of force without bending or deforming . However, if the stainless steel is subjected to excessive force or stress, it may deform or even fracture.
