Used as solvent, raw material for organic synthesis

It is used as a medium polar aprotic solvent in chemical reaction and extraction. Tetrahydrofuran is a colorless, low viscosity liquid with an ether-like odor. Tetrahydrofuran is partially miscible with water at room temperature, and some unscrupulous reagent manufacturers take advantage of this to make huge profits by mixing tetrahydrofuran reagent with water. Tetrahydrofuran readily becomes peroxide on storage. Therefore, commercial tetrahydrofuran is often protected from oxidation with BHT, that is, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol. Tetrahydrofuran can be stored in a dark place by placing it in a sealed bottle with sodium hydroxide.

Colorless transparent liquid. There is ether smell. It is an important organic chemical and fine chemical raw material, widely used in resin solvents (tape coating, PVC surface coating, cleaning PVC reactor, removing PVC film, cellophane coating, plastic printing ink, thermoplastic polyurethane coating) ;Reaction solvents (Grignard reagents, alkyl alkali metal compounds and aryl alkali metal compounds, aluminum hydride and boron hydride, steroids and macromolecular organic polymers); chemical intermediate products (polymerization to produce PTMEG, natural gas odorants); chromatography Solvent (Gel Permeation Chromatography).

Tetrahydrofuran has the characteristics of low toxicity, low boiling point and good fluidity.
