Polyacrylic acid, referred to as "PAA, alias 2 - acrylic homopolymer, acrylic resin coating, acrylic resin, acrylic monomers, acrylic polymer modified resin, acrylic resin emulsion, is a kind of water-soluble acrylic polymers, some are soluble in polar solvent, such as methano, 2 alkanes and ethylene glycol, etc. The ionization constant is Chemicalbook4.75. Because the molecule contains a large number of carboxyl groups, it can react with alkali, alcohol, amine, dehydration, degradation and complexation reaction. Can be used as thickening agent, dispersant, flocculant, adhesive and film forming agent, widely used in coating, plastic, paper, textile, rubber, food, medicine, cosmetics and water treatment and other industries.

 Low molecular weight polyacrylic acid is colorless transparent solid. Its 20% to 30% aqueous solution is light yellow or colorless viscous liquid. Molecular weight is 500 ~ 5000, pH value is 2 ~ 4. Its dissociation constant is approximately 5×10-5, which is similar to the dissociation constant of acetic acid (1.8×10-5), and is much larger than the first dissociation constant of carbonic acid. Therefore, polyacrylic acid is a weak acid stronger than carbonic acid. It is generally stable for strong acids, strong bases and oxidants, but under high temperature or long-term light, the low molecular weight polyacrylic acid will still be repolymerized, so that its molecular weight continues to increase, the viscosity will also increase, and finally become a jelly state of solid precipitation from the aqueous solution. It is a chelating agent and lattice distortion agent, and can form stable complexes with metal ions such as calcium and magnesium in water. It also has good dispersion performance, which can disperse amorphous particles such as crystalline compounds, soil, dust, corrosive substances and biological debris in water.
