Formic acid  is one of the basic organic chemical raw materials, which is widely used in leather, leather, dyestuff, rubber and other industries.
Leather industry: tanning agent, deashing agent and neutralizing agent for leather. 
Rubber industry: natural rubber coagulant.

 

Flammable. It can be freely miscible with water, ethanol, ether and glycerol, and most polar organic solvents. It also has certain solubility in hydrocarbons.

The relative density (d204) was 1.220. 3714. The combustion heat is 254.4 kJ / mol, the critical temperature is 306.8 ºC, and the critical pressure is 8.63 MPa. 9 ºC (open cup). The density is 1.22g/cm ³ , and the saturated vapor pressure (24 ºC) is 5.33 kPa

Formic acid with high concentration is easy to freeze in winter.

Forbidden compounds: strong oxidant, strong alkali, active metal powder.

Hazard characteristics: its vapor and air form an explosive mixture, which can cause combustion and explosion in case of open fire and high heat. It can react with strong oxidant.

Solubility: miscible with water, insoluble in hydrocarbons, miscible in ethanol, ether, soluble in benzene.

Formic acid can be directly used in fabric processing, tanning, textile printing and dyeing, and storage of green fodder. It can also be used as metal surface treatment agent, rubber additive and industrial solvent.
