  Pharmaceutical I ntermediate
S ide C hain  for Meropenem  is a pharmaceutical intermediate, mainly used in the production of antibiotic meropenem. It is used to treat patients with severe infection or multi-drug resistant bacteria. Both G+ bacteria and G- bacteria have good curative effect, but it is not suitable to fight against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Nor does it apply to carbapenem-resistant infections of other bacteria, such as some acinetobacter. Aminoglycosides (such as amikacin) should be combined if used against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Meropenem
Meropenem is another semi synthetic carbapenem antibiotic for parenteral administration following the launch of imipenem cilastatin in the United States. It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls by binding its covalent bonds to penicillin binding proteins (PBPs) involved in cell wall synthesis, thereby playing an antibacterial role. It is sensitive to both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, and has strong antibacterial activity against Chemicalbook gram negative bacteria in particular. For example, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for about 90% of Enterobacteriaceae is 0.08-0.15 mg/L, and more than 90% of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains are highly sensitive to it (MIC<4 mg/L). All haemophiles, including ampicillin resistant strains, are highly sensitive to it (MIC is 0.06-1 mg/L). Neisseria gonorrhoeae is also highly sensitive to meropenem, and its activity is 15 times stronger than that of imipenem. Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and other coagulase negative staphylococci are sensitive to meropenem, while most strains of Enterococcus faecalis are highly or moderately sensitive to meropenem. Meropenem with a MIC of 0.06-4mg/L can inhibit almost all Bacteroides fragilis. Anaerobic bacteria such as Streptococcus Digestus, Propionibacterium, and Actinomyces are also sensitive to meropenem.
