Methyl o-hydroxybenzoate, also known as methyl salicylate and methyl salicylate, is an organic compound with the chemical formula of C8H8O3. It is a colorless to yellowish transparent liquid with strong holly oil aroma. Natural products are found in essential oils such as Pyrola oil, holly oil, birch oil, green tea seed oil, clove oil, mistletoe oil, evening jasmine oil, small angelica oil, tea oil, ylang ylang oil, and fruit juices of cherries, apples, and strawberries. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, acetic acid and other general organic solvents. It is easy to change color when exposed in the air. It is mainly used in the daily chemical essence formula, and is mainly used to prepare ylang ylang, tuberose, suxin orchid, acacia, fuqi, suxin orchid and other flavor essence, but its most common use is to flavor toothpaste.
