Mandelic Acid, also known as mandelic acid, is a white powder. Melting point is 119°C. Easily soluble in hot water, ether , but insoluble in ethanol. Exposure for too long will cause discoloration and decomposition. It can be prepared by the action of benzaldehyde and dibromide acetophenone. Used in organic synthesis, it is a special reagent for the determination of zirconium.
Mandelic acid can be used as intermediates for vasodilator cyclic mandelic acid ester, eye drops oxybenzazole, etc. It can also be used as a preservative.
