Magnesium fluoride can be used to make pottery, glass, cosolvent for smelting magnesium metal, and coating for lenses and filters in optical instruments. Fluorescent materials for cathode-ray screens, refractors and soldering agents for optical lenses, and coating agents for titanium pigments.

Usage:

Mainly used in additive of electrolytic aluminum, manufacture of flux for  ceramic glass and magnesium metallurgy, coating of optical instrument lens  and light filter, fluorescent material for cathode ray screen, anti- refracting agent and welding agent of optical lens, coating agent of Ti pigment.

Properties:  

It is white powder. The melting point is 1261ºC. It is insoluble in water and alcohol, slightly soluble in dilute acid. It can be stored in glass containers.
