Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), also called L-ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. Vitamin C in food is absorbed by the upper part of the human small intestine. Once absorbed, it is distributed to all water-soluble structures in the body. There is about 1500mg of vitamin C in the metabolic activity pool of vitamin C in a normal adult body, and the highest storage peak is 3000mg of vitamin C. Under normal circumstances, the vast majority of vitamin C is metabolized in the body and decomposed into oxalic acid or combined with sulfuric acid to produce ascorbic acid-2-sulfuric acid and excreted in urine; the other part can be excreted directly in urine.
1.The synthesis of collagen: Vitamin C is required for the synthesis of collagen, so VC is lacking and collagen cannot be synthesized normally, which leads to cell connection obstacles. The human body is composed of cells, and cells rely on intercellular substance to connect them. The key component of intercellular substance is collagen. Collagen accounts for 1/3 of the body's protein and generates connective tissue, which constitutes the body's skeleton. Such as bones, blood vessels, ligaments, etc., determine the elasticity of the skin, protect the brain, and help the healing of human wounds.
2.Treatment of scurvy: The strength of the blood vessel wall has a lot to do with VC. Microvessels are the smallest of all blood vessels. The wall of the tube may be only one cell thick. Its strength and elasticity are determined by collagen, which is responsible for connecting cells with a cement effect. When the body's VC is insufficient, the capillaries are easily ruptured and blood flows to adjacent tissues. If this happens on the surface of the skin, it will produce congestion and purpura; if it occurs in the body, it will cause pain and joint pain. In severe cases, bleeding can occur in the stomach, intestines, nose, kidneys and underneath the periosteum, and even death.
3.Prevent gum shrinkage and bleeding: healthy gums tightly wrap each tooth. Gum is a soft tissue. When it lacks protein, calcium, and VC, it is easy to cause gum atrophy and bleeding.
