Application & Function of Ceftiofur Free Acid

Ceftiofur has a wide antibacterial spectrum and strong antibacterial activity, and it has strong antibacterial activity
against Gram-positive bacteria, negative bacteria and some anaerobic bacteria. YancyRJ et al. tested 264 strains
of 17 kinds of pathogens isolated from cattle, pigs, horses, poultry, dogs and cats. The results showed that ceftiofur
was more active thanagainst almost all strains (including β-lactamase producing strains) except Staphylo
coccus aureus. SalmonSA et al. tested ceftiofur and its major metabolite, norfuran carbonyl ceftiofur, against 539
clinical isolates of veterinary pathogens. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of ceftiofur and its major
metabolite, norfuran carbonyl ceftiofur, against Gram-negative bacteria was the same or similar.
Ceftiofur sodium/Ceftiofur hydrochloride is suitable for the treatment of bovine respiratory diseases (transport
fever, pneumonia) caused by Pasteurella haemolytic, Pasteurella multocide, and Haemophilus coma, both
in lactation and non-lactation. Ceftiofur sodium can be used for equine respiratory diseases caused by
Streptococcus equi zoonosis subspecies, ceftiofur hydrochloride can be used for cattle foot-rot disease. In
pigs, both can be used to control/treat bacterial pneumonia. Ceftiofur sodium is also suitable for respiratory
diseases in sheep and goats and for sensitive urinary tract infections in dogs, and is potentially therapeutic
for infections in other small animals, and can be used in newborn chicks and turkeys.
